Hurricane Updates
Hurricane Ike
(September 13, 2008)
Hurricane Ike made landfall at Galveston, TX at 02:30 a.m. CDT this morning as a category two hurricane (maximum sustained winds at landfall were 110 mph), with hurricane force winds extending outwards up to 125 miles from the center.
Tropical Storm Hanna
(September 6, 2008)
Tropical Storm Hanna made landfall at 3:40 a.m. EDT near the border between South Carolina and North Carolina. Hanna is zooming northeast towards New England at 28 mph. Hanna is expected to pass over (near) Canadian Maritime tomorrow. Its maximum sustained winds are 50 mph and is not expected to change during the next couple of days.
Hurricane Gustav
(September 1, 2008)
Hurricane Gustav has made landfall about 70 miles west of New Orleans as a strong CAT 2 hurricane.

Earthquake Updates
M5.4 Greater Los Angeles, CA
(July 29, 2008)
The USGS reports that a magnitude 5.4 earthquake occurred around noon today (11:42:15 AM local time) in the Greater Los Angeles area, California.
M6.8 Honshu (Japan) Earthquake
(July 23, 2008)
A Magnitude 6.8 earthquake has occurred on Honshu about 300 miles north of Tokyo. The largest nearby cities are Morioka and Akita.
M6.9 Eastern Honshu, Japan
(June 14, 2008)
A large earthquake occurred in central Japan at 8 AM (Japan local time) on Saturday 14 June. The closest towns are Morioka and Akita (CRESTA zones 2 and 3), about 240 miles north of Tokyo.
The USGS website contains a summary of the physical information from this event. The largest aftershock to date occurred approximately 30 minutes after the initial shock about 20 kilometers distant.
